Sencha is the tea most Japanese households drink every day, and it accounts for the large majority of the country's green tea production. The leaves are grown in full sun, then steamed within hours of picking to stop oxidation before it starts — the step that separates Japanese green tea from Chinese pan-fired styles. Rolling and drying follow, shaping the leaf into the thin dark needles you see in the bag. In the cup it is fresh and grassy with a clean astringency, and the balance shifts with the water: cooler water pulls the sweetness and umami forward, hotter water brings out the briskness. One portion of leaf will give you two or three good infusions, each a little different from the last.

We ship from warehouses in the US, the EU and Japan — whichever is closest to you. US and EU orders arrive in 4–12 business days; the handful of countries served from Japan take around 10. Business days count from dispatch rather than from when you order, and exclude weekends and public holidays. You'll get a tracking number by email the moment your parcel leaves the warehouse.
We only buy from fields grown without pesticides or chemicals. We ask each farmer directly how they manage their land, visit the plantation and processing facility ourselves, taste every harvest before committing, and check that the biodiversity around the fields is alive. Small family farms don't always carry paperwork — so we verify it in person instead.
Japanese green tea covers an enormous range, and choosing online isn't easy. If you've tried yours and it isn't for you, email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a line on what you didn't enjoy. We'll send a different tea of equal or lower value, free. Nothing to post back — keep it, share it, or try brewing it cooler. Once per order.
Email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo. We'll approve it, cover the return postage with a prepaid label or a reimbursement, and refund you — no restocking fee. Refunds go to your original payment method within 2 business days of the return reaching us; your bank may take another 5–20 to show it.
Unopened items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days. Tea is sealed for hygiene, so opened packs can't come back — but the swap above covers exactly that situation. Return postage is yours unless the item arrived damaged, defective or incorrect.
Orders to the US and EU ship domestically from our local warehouse, so there's no customs charge and no duty. A small number of destinations are served from our Japan warehouse, where your own customs authority may apply import duty, VAT or a carrier handling fee on delivery. Those are set by your country, not by us. Ask before you order and we'll help you check.
A Nio video recommended this for Cold Brew. I have been trying lots of Sencha to try to find one that holds up with ice to drink throughout the day. I increased the recommended 5 grams to 6grams/ 500ml water/3 hours in fridge, decant and prepare a second and a third brew as the picture shows. The first brew was perfect. Good flavor, the matcha adds just the right umph. The second and third brews had a lot flavor the first time when I used 5 grams so I’m looking forward to seeing how a 4th brew holds up this time using the 6 grams. Very flavorful and enjoyable tasting cold brew tea. I will be reordering both this and the other recommended cold brew Gyrokuro Karigane soon! There is so much to learn about different Japanese greens so I really appreciate the blogs and videos from Nio, but especially being able to buy authentic Japanese tea from a US source to support the tea farmers and to avoid customs and international delivery costs. Thank you Nio!!
This is my third time buying this one and it’s one of my absolute favorites! Really nice umami and brothy flavors. Consistency of the tea is quite nice.
Unexpectedly, a great, soft taste working fantastically for both hot and cold brews. I bought it not thinking much but it turned out to be a great surprise and is part of my permanent collection on reorder now.
Interesting sencha.
Warm dry leaves have a very savory aroma.
Pours a very vibrant green with a nice little layer of foam. Very leggy, thick brew. It's full bodied. There's Journey from sweet to bitter through each steep. Starts out very sweet and umami with almost no bitterness but progresses along the scale until a bite of bitter with the last sip. Each progressive steep goes through this journey until around 4 when the matcha has all washed through and your left with a dry and refreshing minerality.
Not my favorite, but certainly fun and interesting!
This is a tea that tasted different with each steep I had of it, which is always fascinating!
The dry leaves gave off aromas of sweetness, honey, and melon. Once wet, I got sweet honey and melon aromas again, but these were lighter.
During the first infusion, I got lots of earthy, matcha, steamed vegetables, umami, and some sweet notes too!
An exceptional mix of sencha and matcha, designed specifically to be cold infused; and me, I took the advice!
A vivid green color, deep and bright, definitely given also by the presence of matcha.
Fresh, herbaceous, sweet and umami taste, a flavor that lingers on the palate, and knows how to refresh hot summer days. Absolutely a must try!

It's very vegetal and savory (as senchas tend to be) with a very umami-forward character. The liquor is very thick and has that bright, verdant, radioactive look to it that I just love. I haven't had very many Japanese teas before but this sencha is definitely one of the best I've had, I may have to get some more!
Sencha Shizuku with Matcha Powder is one of my favorite green tea now. It is super green, feeling like taste the deep forest, invigorating and satisfying at the same time. Highly recommended.
Excellent for cold brewing! This sencha is full of refreshing sweet grassy and umami flavour with hints of mint. The taste of tea gets more intense with last sips.
I bought this tea for cold brewing. I enjoy drinking it in the afternoon. Sweet smooth taste, no bitterness at all. 5gr of tea in 500ml of cold water for three hours. I will definitely buy it again.
We brew the tea cold which lasts for two days. We have 3-4 cups a day. It is sorefreshing that it has quickly established itself as part of our diet. Many thanks, Nio Teas.
I love this tea. I use it mostly as a cold brew because it has a wonderful vegetable taste. It tastes so healthy, and the green color is gorgeous. Before a long drive, I will cold brew about 40 ounces and drink it along the way. If I am sitting at my desk for a while, I will do the same. I highly recommend this tea for anyone who likes Japanese Green Tea, especially very green tea, colorwise.
100/10 i have never tried a tea with matcha powder in it before but this is AMAZING. i definitely recommend this one, the smooth matcha powder mutes out the astringency that green tea usually has, it’s a really good combination that i wouldn’t have thought of myself
I am absolutely in love with this sencha! The combination of green tea leaves and matcha powder gives it that sweet and fruity taste I really haven't been able to find elsewhere
The flavor of this sencha is simply out of this world! It's so smooth and sweet, and the matcha power gives it that added punch that really makes the cold brew
It's so cool to see matcha powder blended with tea leaves in this sencha. The flavor is simply amazing, with a sweetness and fruity taste that I can't get enough of. And that color is just spectacular!
I'm so impressed by how green and vibrant this sencha is! It's definitely greener than any other sencha I've tried, and the fruity taste is simply amazing.
This sencha is such a unique concept I'm really glad I found it! I love how the matcha powder adds that extra kick but its not overpower. I would recommend this to anyone who likes cold brew teas
The sweet aroma coming off of the leaves is simply heavenly! I love the smooth and sweet taste of this sencha, and it's now my favorite tea, especially as the weather is getting warmer
